Italy’s first civilizations were the Etruscan who settled in central Italy around 800 BC. They built cities and were good engineers who drained marshes and built roads. They were very skilled artists as well. Soon though the Romans rebelled against the Etruscan and started their own settlement by the middle of the 8th century BC. After being involved in wars for some quite times and overcoming the various empires who tried to take over their cities, Italy became alive in the end of the 14th century and the 15th century. This good radiance was brought by the Renaissance age which made Italy prosper greatly. Soon after though, in the 17th century, Italy suffered from a long recession which made trade and industry decline along with the agriculture stagnated. Also, poverty and banditry increased greatly during this recession.
During the same time this was happening, Spain was ruling the southern part of Italy but soon came Austria and took over. They ruled for quite some time but Spain came back in the 18th century and recovered back the southern parts of Italy from Austria. Finally in 1861 Italy was freed from any ruling empire and became united. After going through World War I and World War II, Italy finally settled and began to work into becoming a prosperous country.
